YOGA IS FOR MEN, TOO: GUYS DISCOVER HOW YOGA CAN KICK-START A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE IN 2012
-- Holistic Health Practitioner and Yoga Teacher, Juneous A. Pettijohn, Challenges Men to Try Yoga to Achieve a Healthier Lifestyle in 2012 --

Juneous Pettijohn, registered Yoga Teacher
Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) -- January is traditionally a time when we attempt to change our lives for the better, but male Yoga teacher in Washington, D.C., Juneous Pettijohn, is challenging men to commit to trying Yoga to improve their overall health.
"I was immediately hooked on Yoga after noticing the physical changes to my body, and how the benefits also extended to all of the other areas of my life." Pettijohn explained. "Now it is my personal mission to serve as your guide on your wellness journey by helping you to become dedicated to achieving excellent health and wellness."
Pettijohn is an African American male, and a Registered Yoga Teacher, and he wants to encourage men to take more responsibility for their health in 2012. Over 5,000 years old, Yoga is a health system originally practiced predominantly by males. In a 2005 Yoga Journal market study it was revealed that only 33 percent of Yoga practitioners in the U.S. are male. Yoga has many far-reaching health benefits for the body, mind and spirit, which, unfortunately, many men miss out on because they haven't yet given Yoga a chance.
Pettijohn believes that the turn of the New Year is an excellent time to take up Yoga as a compliment to physical activities such as basketball, weight training, and running. Having a regular yoga practice can even help men to improve their performance in these sports by improving flexibility, core strength, increasing focus and calming the mind.
Yoga classes such as YogAbs & Power Flow, and Restorative Yoga are just two examples of the different kinds of workouts you can get. With YogAbs & Power Flow poses to strengthen the core are explored. The core supports the whole body and helps to increase balance and concentration. In a Restorative Yoga class, the flow is at a slower pace and the body is supported by pillows and blankets and poses are held for longer periods of time.
Pettijohn suggests the following tips for men who are ready to give Yoga a try:
* Choose a style of Yoga that works for you.
* Wear Yoga gear that fits comfortably - not too loose or too binding.
* Bring your own Yoga mat.
* Always practice Yoga on an empty stomach.
* Go easy at first. Yoga is not a competitive sport.
